The Norwegian Institute of Bunad and Folk Costume shall disseminate information and make collected materials available to those who work on costume-related issues.
Answering questions from individuals and from various institutions and organisations accounts for an important part of our dissemination activities. These questions can range from matters relating to bunad history and use to materials and patterns. Others seek advice on reconstruction projects based on local folk costume traditions.
The Norwegian Institute of Bunad and Folk Costume has an archive and library on its premises, and individuals and small groups can book a visit to our documentation centre. Contact us by email or call us on +47 61 36 62 50 to make enquiries.
Our bunad exhibition, which opened in 2021, is staged in the same building as our premises at Valdres Folk Museum. The Norwegian Institute of Bunad and Folk Costume and Valdres Folk Museum each have their own exhibition space for staging their permanent exhibitions, both of which opened in 2021. Additional space is available for staging temporary exhibitions, and this space is currently being used to stage Fargerike felleskap – kvitt raseri: Nasjonale manifestasjonar 1945–2018 [Colourful communities – white rage: National manifestations], which we have curated in collaboration with Valdres Folk Museum. We arrange guided tours of the exhibition for tourists and other interested groups on request. Contact us by email or call us on +47 61 36 62 50 for more details.
