Exhibitions

Rotasjon [Rotation] is an exhibition project that has been in progress at Valdres Folk Museum since 2017. Rotasjon comprises three exhibitions: a temporary exhibition, an exhibition of costumes and objects from the Norwegian Institute of Bunad and Folk Costume, and an exhibition of objects from Valdres Folk Museum's collection. Rotasjon was designed by the architectural firm Snøhetta.

Fyrstedamer i bunad [Leading Ladies in Bunads] was curated by the Norwegian Institute of Bunad and Folk Costume. The exhibition pays tribute to the pioneers in Norwegian folk costume design, both those who documented the traditional costumes and those who created the new, contemporary bunad. The exhibition displays objects from this work and a selection of bunads from the past 150 years.

Folkekunsten [Arts and crafts]: This exhibition contains objects from Valdres Folk Museum's rich collection as well as some on loan from other institutions and private owners. The exhibition shows how local cultural traditions stand in the tension between local sources of inspiration and new impulses from outside. At the centre of all this stand the craftspeople, rotating around their own traditions while mischievously nabbing whatever ideas they might come across along the way.

Nationalisme [Nationalism]: Fargerike fellesskap - kvitt raseri (Colourful community – white rage) is a social commentary exhibition that opened in 2018.
