The Norwegian Institute of Bunad and Folk Costume has been responsible for the National Network for Costumes and Textiles since 2008.
The purpose of the network is to strengthen the field of costumes and textiles in museums by creating forums for exchanging knowledge and research, developing forms of cooperation and division of labour, achieving professional cohesion and making optimal use of resources.
The target group
The network is a museum network, and is only open to museums with collections of costumes and textiles. It is not open to individuals, unfortunately, but museums that are interested in membership can contact the Norwegian Institute of Bunad and Folk Costume by email at post@bunadogfolkedrakt.no.
The network's activities
The museums are the network's members, and they select relevant employees to represent them at network meetings. These will vary, depending on the meeting. Each museum may send one or two representatives.
The network may choose to arrange some conferences that are open to everyone, with a view to disseminating knowledge to a broader public. The network organises annual meetings, keeps minutes of meetings, administers email distribution lists and operates its own website.
