Nomenclature of folk costumes

The dataset was originally built on the Norwegian Institute of Bunad and Folk Costume's terminology list used for registering costume material. The Norwegian Institute of Bunad and Folk Costume's terminology list has been developed through the process of registering garments in private and public ownership in Norway since 1970.

The list was supplemented with terms from the glossary 'Betegnelser for bekledningstekstiler' [Designations for clothing textiles], a project undertaken by Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum and Domkirkeoddden Museum in Hedmark in 2010.

The nomenclature has been developed in collaboration with the National Network for Costumes and Textiles in Norwegian museums and supported by Arts Council Norway. The reference group members were: Anne Grete Sandstad, Museums of Southern Trøndelag/Sverresborg Trøndelag Folk Museum, Kari Anne Pedersen, Norsk folkemuseum, Anne-Mari Hannisdal, Museum Centre in Hordaland/Osterøy Museum, and Helga Reidun Bergebakken Nesset, Anno Museums/Museum in Nord-Østerdalen.

The language consultant and translator was Aud Søyland.

The dataset is stored at kulturnav.org, where you can also read more about this work.
